 When the locales saw so many red crabs crawling along the beach, it looked like a red Mandar and thus the place was named Mandarboni which later became Mandarmani. This is a fast-growing sea resort in East Midnapore and on the Northern part of Bay of Bengal. The sea here is shallower than Digha and thus even better for swimming. The sea beach is a drive- in one and is the longest motorable beach of India. The place is a village and this is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The views of casuarina and the sound of sea waves crashing the shore are blissful. The main activities you can enjoy here are swimming, cricket, tennis, boat cruises and others. There are also a number of holiday resorts just on the beach. The village is connected to Kolkata via a highway and buses are always available from the city if you wish to travel by public transport.

Description about Mandarmani:

A 13 km long motorable beach, One of the fastest growing tourist attractions of West Bengal, it is located in the East Midnapore district of West Bengal. Known as Mandarboni by the locals, the village offers a peaceful atmosphere for tourists to unwind,  probably the longest motorable beach in India. Sea, Sun, Sand, sea Shell you have it all here. Resorts are all lined up very close to the beach making your stay here one of the most memorable vacations. This beach looks oh so enigmatic during a full moonlight, or during the sunrise and the sunset Several water and beach, sports are conducted during the Digha-Mandarmani festival held in January. The festival also showcases several Bangla bands who perform on a temporary stage built on the beach. For those of you who love to shop, the objects and ornaments made from seashells and oysters are a must have.

One can find multi-cuisine restaurants serving Bengali, Indian and International cuisine. However, while in Mandarmani, don’t miss out on the seafood.

How to reach:

The total trip from Kolkata is around 3.5 hours. The nearest train station is at Contai. From Kolkata, catch a bus at Esplanade or at Howrah headed for Chawalkhola, or any bus headed towards Digha. From Chawlkhola there are cycle-rickshaws and auto-rickshaw which you can take to MANDARMONI. You can also hire a car from Chawalkhola for Mandarmoni.On the beach, there is no electricity and after dark, the only sources of light are the lights of the small beach-side shops which get their electricity from generators or batteries. Red crabs are visible over a large stretch of the beach. There are a lot of resorts to choose from. Better to go on weekdays if possible, as the resort owner's increase their prices of resorts on weekends.But better to bargain to enter any resorts. the food at hirak Jayanti is good.
